Hangar insurance is a type of insurance policy, designed to protect your hangar from physical damage. Hangar insurance is based on the value of the hangar and protects against damages by wind, fire, etc.
This is different than an aircraft insurance policy. An aircraft insurance policy covers liability and hull damage to the aircraft itself and excludes coverage for the hangar itself. Most aircraft insurance policies include premises liability, which follows the aircraft as a bubble. This is slip and fall coverage and would apply if the aircraft is based full time in a hangar. This coverage also satisfies typical airport liability insurance requirements, but does not protect the hangar from physical damage or contents inside the hangar.
Hangar insurance policies can also offer a range of additional coverages:
- Your Business Personal Property (YBPP)
- This covers damage to tools, spare parts or other property based inside the hangar.
- This does not cover anything motorized (an aircraft/automobile)
- Flood Protection
- In the event a flood damages the hangar or contents inside the hangar.
- Premises Liability
- Slip and fall coverage that applies inside of the hangar
If you own a hangar, a hangar insurance policy is a great choice to protect your investment in the building and the contents inside.
