Use aircraft-specific records, current estimates and qualified professional advice when evaluating ownership costs. Insurance terms require a quote for your aircraft, pilots and operation. Request a quote for your aircraft; terms, availability and premiums depend on the insurer and your details.

Ask for recent comparable information and a pre-purchase review; a model name or age alone does not establish value. For a new build, Van’s kit order forms separate model-specific kit, engine and propeller purchases. A kit price is not the price of a completed flying aircraft. FAA buying guidance describes the importance of inspecting the aircraft and its records.
Vans Aircraft Year and Model
Identify the RV model, builder, completion date, airworthiness category and actual configuration. The individual aircraft’s workmanship, records and equipment deserve review alongside its age. Van’s guidance for buying a flying RV explains why completed aircraft should be assessed individually.
Engine Time
Verify the installed engine, its records and the instructions that apply to it. Van’s powerplant information shows that engine choices differ across RV models. Check the actual installation and applicable manufacturer publications instead of applying a blanket Lycoming-versus-Continental interval or an assumed overhaul price.
Airframe Time (TTAF)
Evaluate the individual RV’s construction, maintenance records, operating limitations and condition. Van’s buying guidance recommends an inspection by someone familiar with RV construction and maintenance.
Avionics
Avionics and upgrades can significantly impact the value of a Vans RV. Panel upgrades, GPS, Autopilot, ADS-B installation, etc can all increase the value of the Vans Aircraft. The best case is to obtain an equipment list or installation and upgrade history to help justify the value of the additional avionics.
Interior and Paint
Compare the actual condition and documented work. Obtain estimates for repairs or refurbishment you expect to need; fresh paint or a new interior does not create a fixed dollar increase in every aircraft’s value.
