AOPA, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association was founded on May 15th, 1939.
According to the AOPA website, the goal of the organization was to protect the freedom to fly, while keeping general aviation safe, fun and affordable.
In 1992 AOPA formed a new venture by partnering with Rollins, Hudig and Hall of Kansas. The new joint venture was to be called AOPA Insurance Agency, Inc. and was a separate aviation insurance focused company, using the AOPA name.
On December 5th, 2018, AOPA announced that it’s insurance business, AOPA Insurance, was sold to AssuredPartners Aerospace.
AOPA now only offers it’s members Auto, homeowners and life insurance.

In 1977 Bill White Insurance was founded by Bill White. Mr. White is a Vietnam veteran, licensed insurance broker and owned a Cessna 185.
Throughout the 80’s and 90’s, Bill White Insurance specialized in Aviation Insurance with a particular focus on Cessna 180/185’s, Robinson Helicopter Insurance and Tailwheel Insurance.
In 2016 his son, Matt White, purchased the agency. Matt White is a Former Marine with a passion for aviation and business.
In 2017 Bill White Insurance changed it’s name to BWI Aviation Insurance Agency, Inc.
In 2018 BWI introduced iFlyQuote, state-of-the-art aviation insurance quoting software.
In 2019 BWI announced it’s very first branch office in Anchorage, AK.
