For a DJI owner, two separate questions matter: how to repair or replace the drone, and how to address liability arising from flying it. Compare the actual DJI service agreement with the insurance quotation for your operation instead of treating the products as interchangeable.

What does DJI Care Refresh provide?
DJI describes Care Refresh as a service plan for eligible DJI products. Its current guide includes accidental-damage replacement services and, for eligible camera drones, flyaway replacement subject to requirements. The available service period, replacement allowances, fees and eligible components depend on the product and plan.
Check the current DJI Care Refresh guide and your own service agreement. In particular, check the aircraft’s eligibility and any account or controller binding requirements for flyaway service. Do not rely on an old model’s price or replacement allowance.
How does that differ from drone insurance?
A manufacturer’s repair or replacement arrangement is a different question from liability insurance for claims involving other people or their property. When requesting an insurance quote, describe your flights and ask which liabilities, aircraft and equipment the proposed policy addresses.
- Liability: Review the proposed limits, insured parties, activities, exclusions and conditions.
- The drone itself: If you want physical damage coverage, confirm the insured aircraft, value, deductible and settlement terms.
- Payloads: Identify removable cameras, sensors and other equipment separately. Ask what must be scheduled.
- Client requirements: Supply the actual insurance wording from a contract and ask which endorsements are needed.
Neither a service-plan name nor an insurance coverage heading establishes the outcome of a particular loss. Read the terms that apply to the equipment and operation.
Should you have both?
Start by identifying the protection you want, then compare where the documents overlap and where they address different needs. Buying both does not automatically mean every risk is covered. Ask about exclusions, deductibles, replacement fees and any conditions affecting repair or replacement before deciding.
Also ask how using one arrangement could affect a claim or request under the other. Avoid assuming you can collect twice for the same loss.
Compare the cost of equivalent protection
Use the current price for your eligible DJI model and the actual insurance quote for your operation. Compare the plan or policy period, what equipment is included, applicable fees and the amount you would pay after a loss. An advertised service-plan price is not a comparable quote for liability plus equipment insurance.

Prepare your BWI quote request
Have your DJI model, equipment values, pilot details, intended work, operating locations and client requirements ready. BWI currently requires a Part 107 certificate for drone quote requests, including recreational flying. Review the requirements and start a quote, or call 800-666-4359.
