The details worth getting right.
A useful comparison explains what each quotation says about your aircraft, liability and pilots. Ask BWI to walk through the differences with you.
Get a Cirrus insurance quoteAircraft value and hull terms
Review the requested insured value and the policy’s loss-settlement wording, including whether it is written on an agreed-value basis. Discuss equipment, upgrades, deductibles, ground and in-flight protection, and any restrictions.
Liability limits and sublimits
Look at the overall liability limit and any passenger or per-person sublimits. Ask which options, including limits without a passenger sublimit, are available for your application. Review defense provisions and medical payments separately.
Approved pilots and training
Confirm who may fly, the required experience and any transition or recurrent training conditions. An open pilot warranty is a policy condition, not a promise that every pilot or operation is covered.
Ownership and the way you fly
Explain whether the aircraft is owned personally, through an entity, or with other owners. Identify lenders and other interests, intended business or personal use, instruction, and any non-owned-aircraft needs.
These are topics to review, not a list of automatically included coverages. Availability, limits and conditions depend on the application, insurer and policy wording.

Cirrus Standardized Instructor Pilot (CSIP) instruction, Cirrus Approach courses and other training may be relevant to your submission. The insurer determines what it requires and whether any pricing adjustment applies.

Cirrus insurance, explained
Good questions.
Clear next steps.
Answers to common owner questions, with room for the details of your aircraft and application.
How much does Cirrus aircraft insurance cost?
Request a current quote for your aircraft and pilots. Insured value, experience, training, use, limits and deductibles can affect the premium. An old price example is not a reliable quote for your aircraft.
Does CAPS reduce my insurance premium?
Tell BWI about the equipment installed on your aircraft and your pilot training. Ask how the insurer evaluates those details. A premium reduction for CAPS or any other system is not guaranteed.
Is Embark or CSIP training required?
Requirements differ by insurer, aircraft and pilot. Confirm the training conditions in your quotation before scheduling training or flying under the policy. Cirrus program participation does not establish acceptance by a particular insurer.
Can a student pilot request Cirrus insurance?
Yes, you can ask BWI to review an application with the aircraft, instructor and proposed training plan. Eligibility and minimum experience are subject to the insurer’s review. Private, commercial and ATP pilots should also provide the experience and training relevant to the aircraft.
Can I request a quote before I purchase?
Contact BWI with the proposed aircraft, expected purchase date, ownership details and pilot plan. Ask what is needed for the quotation and before binding. An application or quotation does not itself put coverage in force.
What should I share about my ownership or lender?
Identify the proposed named insured, any co-owners or ownership entity, and the lender or other party requesting policy wording. Bring their requirements so they can be reviewed against the available quotation.
